Manhattan Jury Awards $2.3 Million in MTA Leg Amputation Case: Frivolous Lawsuit? I think not…

Author: Lowell Steiger

Published On: February 18, 2009

The New York Post just published a story about a young guy who lost his leg just below the calf when an MTA Train ran over him while he lay on the tracks. The public is outraged by this story because the 25 year old victim, Dustin Dibble, was drunk and fell onto the tracks. The outrage should not be directed at Dibble, however, because the ultimate cause of his injury arose when, per Dibble’s attorney Andrew Smiley, “a subway-train operator is obligated to stop a subway train before it strikes a large object on the tracks, even if it… Read More

Denial of Proper Pay for Employees is Rampant THE PROBLEM –  With the economy on a persistent downturn, and the business community feeling the impact, employees are increasingly being denied proper compensation for the work they perform. This either arises because employers mistakenly believe that their employees are not entitled to compensation guaranteed by the California Labor Code or mislead their employees with respect to such entitlement. Thanks to U.S. News and World Report for their article on the 10 cars that cops love to ticket. It’s a pretty fascinating list with some surprises (at least to me). I’ve culled the Internet to find representative photos of the cars and added an interesting link to each one for your reading enjoyment. In line with this article, I would suggest that you read A Guideline for Handling Traffic Tickets by Michael Klijian, Esq. The data in their article was produced by a survey conducted by ISO Quality Planning, an outfit that helps insurers spot and assess risks. This is a polite way of… Read More
